ArcelorMittal – Contaminated water treatment plant

Building owner

ArcelorMittal Luxembourg / ArcelorMittal Dommeldange

Location

Dommeldange

Between the years of 1969 and 1989, the company CASA operated a process to produce ferroalloy compounds while also operating an industrial landfill located on property in the ownership of AcelorMittal Dommeldange.

ArcelorMittal then decided to build a station to treat the infiltration water coming from the CASA landfill. During a feasibility study carried out by Paul Wurth Geprolux in 2008, it was determined that the process of chemical precipitation was the most suitable process for this application. The produced waste is a dehydrated sludge which, in comparison with other processes, will be stored and easily disposed of.
